Norman Macrae’s Future Yearbook 2012:

Inviting you  and yours to participate in the 20 most exciting projects ever networked

Norman Macrae got mixed up with more extraordinary movements than any journalist of the 20th Century. In 1955 he was the only journalist at the birth of the European Union. In 1962, he was the first economist to forecast the return of Japan as a world class innovative force.

Norman’s most famous future history was The Entrepreneurial Revolution Trilogy

Part 1 published  by The Economist Xmas day 1976 foresaw the need for the world to change stockmarkets if  people were to prevent a meltdown of the global financial system in 2010s. Joyfully, part 2 in 1982 explained how productive lives in service economies were no longer to be bossed about. By 1984, Norman was the first to journalise the extraordinary possibilities of the internet generation 1984-2024. Unlike consuming things, knowledge can multiply value in use and network’s death of distance can bring down degrees of separation on life critical information, and once knowhow is digitally coded the cost to replicate it worldwide comes down to nought.

When Norman died in 2010 his obituary in The Economist dubbed him the Unacknowledged Giant and rued the fact that the work needed to prove Norman’s contention that the 2010s would become the most exciting decade was still to be done. But Norman had been overjoyed in 2008 to meet the greatest entrepreneurial revolutionary of his lifetime. He started plotting what he confidently believed would be the 20 most exciting projects ever networked and demanded they start up by 2012 – the 170th year of The Economist which had itself started up with goals of ending hunger and openly investing in youth’s futures all over the world . This book is dedicated to Youth and their most joyful economic guide Muhammad Yunus. Let us see how many of Norman’s top 20 networking projects light up the world.

Exciting Decade Exercise

–        ask what sporting or other event is being planned as your nation’s most newsworthy moment in 2010s and who is you country’s leader with the longest viewpoint (eg royals often have more interest in country’s sustainability and youth than politicians elected in short term contests)

then ask how can your country’s greatest youth leader and its most newsworthy moment mix sporting stars and heroes helping with the decades most exciting goals (end poverty; renew clean energy climate water food; give every chance a chance at a productive happy and healthy life etc)

a transparent map of linking into this has been mapped since 2003 as universityofstars

dear liam

would you like to help us clarify one or more projects for this yearbook being co-sponsored by my father's estate; dad "norman macrae" was The Economist's journalist of entrepreneurial revolution and in 1984 the internet; in his last 3 years dad rated yunus as number 1 youth economist of 2010s; we work to connect collaboration projects around yunus; you may first have come across one of our sponsorships when we gave away 500 yunus social business books jan 2008 at rebecca's world entrepreneur gathering; this year I have been visiting yunus monthly and am working with his infotech divisions which seem to be the simplest to keep out of hasina's reach

one stream of projects involves cleaning up world food- if my maps are cotrrect, the two biggest yunus partners in this are john mackey of whole foods and his friends in paris linked in round danone and reforming EU- I realise this may also be a favourite project of friends of Jamie whose battles with LA education authority are making for great reality tv over here

extyract from sustainability report of French comapny Schneider Electric who are a co-sponsor with Danone of the Yunus Social Business Chair at HEC

Muhammad Yunus, Economist and Entrepreneur

Founder of Grameen Bank p39 Schneider Report

'I had a meeting with Schneider Electric’s top

management and I was explaining that the future will

be decided by two key things that we have right now.

One is energy – how we bring our energy out to

people’s lives – and the other is information

technology. If these two things combined together,

the world would be a completely different place.

'I give the example of Bangladesh. We have 160

million Bangladeshi people, and 60 per cent of them

have no access to electricity. None. So, literally we

are in the Dark Age. But when you bring one electric

bulb, even with a little bit of wattage in it, you can see

for miles.

'There is a light and it fi lls everybody around it with

hope. One light bulb, just one. Imagine what it does

for the family that has its own light bulb. So, in that

kind of society with that kind of economy, imagine if

you could bring one bulb to every man, just one bulb.

What does it mean to them? It’s possible! It’s not

something impossible. But we can’t see it from the top

of the business, that huge big business of energy. We

don’t know what to start from.

'The Chair of Social Business at HEC Paris brings that

link. We have the ability and the technology to make it

easy to link all the considerations – the profi ts, the

return, the investment, all things concerned, so that is

the challenge presented to this Chair and I am very

happy to get together and provide ethical leadership.

I am happy that we are doing things on the ground,

not just writing books and publishing journal articles

and saying, 'I’m a great professor, I’ve had fifty articles

published in the last ten years'. So what. Did they

mean anything to anybody? That's the important

question to ask. So this is the challenge, and the

challenge I want to come to today'.

‘It’s dark, totally dark… But when you bring one electric bulb, even with a little bit of wattage in it, you can see for miles. There is a light and it fills everybody around it with hope'.

2010s Youth's Most Trusted Brands : Grameen & Danone 1 2

Other Formal GG Partners

Dear Zasheem

here's a call which could help search out the professors and media leaders you most need to contribute to special issue of journal of social business fall 2011

Up until world war 2 a literature search of economics shows that most discourse concerned evolutionary or entrepreneurial economics. Both of these adjectives stand for economics whose primary purpose is pro-youth – how do we develop a place so our children and their children have opportunities to be productive that we parents never had?

Ironically this changed just as Keynes was teaching his last students in Cambridge about the Hippocratic oath of economists – please compound no exponential harm given that increasing only economics rules the world. Through the third quarter of a century searches of western economics show models that increasingly disinvest in youth.

The Economist’s Norman Macrae known by journalists as The Unacknowledged Giant (also known to me as dad) was one of the first to spot this scary trend. His 1963 book “Sunshades in October” concluded that the greatest threat to youth was the elderly macroeconomist.

To celebrate what Norman hoped was the most rotten economics quarter of the world, he launched a trilogy of entrepreneurial revolution surveys that began in The Economist 25 Dec 1976. They clarified transparency challenges that needed to be sorted if the world’s financial system was not to collapse by the 2010s – a decade that Norman ’s 1984 book on the internet offered a joyous alternative scenario. Let us make IT the most exciting for youth. This social action is quite simple provided elders help empower the net generation to connect to the most heroic goals they could vote for ten years on.

If we are to turn round peak economics, there is reason for hoping the USA ’s change leadership will flow for fall 2011 on. This is the time that two thirds of 2010 US congress made an appointment to hear a testimony from youth’s number 1 economist and entrepreneurial revolutionary Muhammad Yunus.  Watch the videos of why Congressmen from all sides of the house are looking forward to returning to an economics that sustains communities http://grameeneconomics.com

As far as we can see, The Journal of Social Business is the only English-language journal left whose referees value Adam Smith's original pro-youth criteria. If your work is pro-youth, please do contribute with us.

A1 Yunus & Green 5- which 5 countries (50 mn +) leaders are taking green energy most seriously - editors of journal social busienss and I are particularly interested in these 5 which yunus seems uniquely well connected with : Brazil, Bangladesh, Japan (greatest victim of nuclear) , Germany (end nuclear by 2022), China

A2 royal familes across europe , and the world celebrating fortnight before london olympics as magic moments for youth, sustainability and commowealth raises the question - what process can we rehearse so that at any country's most joyful celebration of the 2010s, the joy of job creating economics can also be celebrated - so to speak: softlandings of all of sustainability world's most joyful economists and media people coming to town and inviting youth to do heroic projects with them

we dont know how to do this yet but aim to make the first process rehearsal in Dc when fall 2011 Yunus comes to town invited by congress to tesfily as worldwide youths most joyful economist

Emergency ‘Call to Action to Protect Earth’ by UN, Pope, Scientists and Indigenous

eNewsChannels COLUMN:Following Bolivia’s passage of their domestic law “Recognizing Mother Earth as a living entity and giving Her the Same Rights as Humans,” the United Nations held a dialogue via an interactive webcast on its “Harmony with Nature” Day, April 20, and it is now working on adopting these rights worldwide.

Thanks to this surprising mindshift by UN leaders and participants, the day also ended in an emergency call to action where the Indigenous, kids, renewable energy, and teamwork play key roles to veer us off our current path toward extinction. Fortunately the UN is not alone. (www.unmultimedia.org/tv/webcast/2011/04/general-assembly-interactiv...).

Khor called ‘Harmony with Nature’ an extremely important phrase that resonates with most of us, and the “Secretary-General’s report on it as quite remarkable and unusual and I encourage the public to read it.” REF: daccess-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/N10/489/57/PDF/N1048957.pdf?Ope...

A COOPERATIVE PARTNERSHIP MODELED AFTER NATURES LAWS

Brown and Eisler explained why our current Neo Classical economics model of dominance at any cost to humanity and Nature is falling apart. Brown said, “Today’s financial paradigm is not scientifically based since the economic indicators are not connected to Earth’s “natural capital,” defined as goods and services from Nature essential for life, which U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Barnaki even admits!”

Eisler explained that politicians worldwide keep this medieval model going because it benefits a few at the expense of the many…virtual slaves. “‘Trickle Down Economics’ comes from peasants getting the crumbs falling off the king’s table. Mainstream economics is unsustainable because it fails to include the critical life-giving, healthy home environment and care giving contributions of women and Mother Earth, which is sacred.” UK researchers estimated that “Housewives should be paid £30,000″ (about $45,000). Malaysian Moderator Martin Khor added, “A maid’s salary is listed on government balance sheets, but when she marries it disappears, though contributing the same work” – why women’s value is discounted. The participants agreed “we need to make a cultural shift to a cooperative partnership system, an Earth Democracy, modeled after Nature’s laws to survive as a species.”

Ecuador’s Constitution of 2008 states that nature’s rights should be taken into account in all planning activities, including the maintenance, regeneration, and restoration of its cycles, structures, functions and evolutionary processes. REF: daccess-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/N10/489/57/PDF/N1048957.pdf?Ope...

Nobel Laureates Eric Chivian, Muhammad Yunus, and Joseph Stiglitz agree that “Human beings are an inseparable part of Mother Earth, and life depends on uninterrupted functioning of Her cycles.”

Together the UN participants painted a holistic picture of a “new world resplendent with life” and urged a shift from an economic system that regards nature as a commodity that we have the right to exploit, to a paradigm that respects Mother Earth’s rights and intrinsic value. Instead of the GNP as the measure of progress, they proposed measuring the “quality of life, well being, and the Gross National Happiness,” pioneered by Ecuador, France and Bhutan.

Humanity is at a crossroads: Why should we only respect the laws of human beings and not those of nature? Why do we call the person who kills his neighbor a criminal, but not he who extinguishes a species or contaminates a river or a system as a whole, if all of us, absolutely all of us, rely on the life of the Earth System? asked Pablo Solon, Bolivia’s Ambassador to the UN.

Hail to the participants who included some of Earth’s deepest thinkers from the member states and renowned authors on the panel: Vandana Shiva (India), Peter Brown (Canada), Cormac Cullinan (South Africa), Riane Eisler (United States), Paul-Bertrand Barets (France), Gilberto Gallopin (Argentina), Ivo Havinga (UN) Mathis Wackernagel (Switzerland). Besides the Bolivians, there was a representative of the UN’s Indigenous Peoples Partnership, as a preview of Native Elders further helping light the way for humanity at RIO-20 next June, which was part of the 2012 prophesy.

Constraints on Adoption

ATAI's research focuses on approaches to helping farmers overcome constraints on the adoption of agricultural technologies. Click on a constraint below to see a literature review on how market inefficiencies hinder adoption, and learn about related ATAI funded research currently underway. This conceptual framework will continue to evolve as our understanding of adoption constraints and successful strategies improves.

  • Externalities. Some technologies create spillovers that affect others. If farmer decisions ignore these spillovers then technologies that create benefits for others may not be adopted, while technologies that impose costs on others may be adopted too widely.
  • Input and Output Market Inefficiencies. Problems with infrastructure and with supply chains, compounded by weak contracting environments, make it more costly for farmers to access input and output markets and access the benefits from technology adoption.
  • Land Market Inefficiencies. In settings where land tenure is weak and property rights insecure, farmers may not have an incentive to invest in beneficial technologies.
  • Labor Market Inefficiencies. New technologies need different types and timing of labor input. Restrictions on labor mobility and high costs in the labor market will interfere with adoption opportunities.
  • Credit Market Inefficiencies. Many farmers have difficulty accessing credit and face high interest rates, which prevents investment in profitable technologies. Financial decisions may be difficult for farmers without high levels of financial literacy.
  • Risk Market Inefficiencies. Technologies that carry a small risk of a loss may not be worth large expected gains if risks cannot be offset. Psychological issues around risky decisions further lower levels of adoption.
  • Informational Inefficiencies. If an individual does not know that a technology exists, does not know about its benefits, or does not know how to use it effectively, then the technology will not be adopted.

D1 back in 1984 a parental subgroup of Norman Macrae's Entrepreneurial Revolutionaries started to connect together - how would education need to change in a world where 90% of jobs would completely change in under one generation. Here is a paper from a new Zealander who has been helping children and parents ask this question every day for the last 27 years. His website http://www.thelearningweb.net introduces you to many more links as well as his book that became a nest seller among 10 million chinese parents

Here are a couple of videos (1 free university where richard branson shares his mentoring on entrepreneurship; 2 problems with examinations focused on knowledge 90% of which makes 90% of children redundant) that can show you what's at it stake. Ask chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk if you are interested in an informal guide to more links that inspire us on how job creatinmg education could be. Truth to tell, as parents we in history's more developed nations are far behind the curious state where we wanted to empower our children to be enjoying by now when our dialogues on the future of the net generation began in 1984 - ideas on how to map which netwiorks of people get this mother of all challenges always welcome

IF we 8 billion earthlings of the 2020s are to celebrate collaboration escapes from extinction, the knowhow of the billion asian poorest women networks will be invaluable -

in mathematically connected ways so will the stories of diaspora scots and the greatest mathematicians ever home schooled -central european jewish teens who emigrated eg Neumann , Einstein ... to USA 2nd quarter of the 20th century; it is on such diversity that entrepreneurial revolution diaries have been shaped

EconomistPOOR.com : Dad was born in the USSR in 1923 - his dad served in British Embassies. Dad's curiosity enjoyed the opposite of a standard examined education. From 11+ Norman observed results of domination of humans by mad white men - Stalin from being in British Embassy in Moscow to 1936; Hitler in Embassy of last Adriatic port used by Jews to escape Hitler. Then dad spent his last days as a teen in allied bomber command navigating airplanes stationed at modernday Myanmar. Surviving thanks to the Americas dad was in Keynes last class where he was taught that only a handful of system designers control what futures are possible. EconomistScotland.com AbedMooc.com

To help mediate such, question every world eventwith optimistic rationalism, my father's 2000 articles at The Economist interpret all sorts of future spins. After his 15th year he was permitted one signed survey a year. In the mid 1950s he had met John Von Neumann whom he become biographer to , and was the only journalist at Messina's's birth of EU. == If you only have time for one download this one page tour of COLLABorations composed by Fazle Abed and networked by billion poorest village women offers clues to sustainability from the ground up like no white ruler has ever felt or morally audited. by London Scot James Wilson. Could Queen Victoria change empire fro slavemaking to commonwealth? Some say Victoria liked the challenge James set her, others that she gave him a poison pill assignment. Thus James arrived in Calcutta 1860 with the Queens permission to charter a bank by and for Indian people. Within 9 months he died of diarrhea. 75 years later Calcutta was where the Young Fazle Abed grew up - his family accounted for some of the biggest traders. Only to be partitioned back at age 11 to his family's home region in the far north east of what had been British Raj India but was now to be ruled by Pakistan for 25 years. Age 18 Abed made the trek to Glasgow University to study naval engineering.

1943 marked centenary autobio of The Economist and my teenage dad Norman prepping to be navigator allied bomber command Burma Campaign -thanks to US dad survived, finished in last class of Keynes. before starting 5 decades at The Economist; after 15 years he was allowed to sign one survey a year starting in 1962 with the scoop that Japan (Korea S, Taiwan soon hk singapore) had found development mp0de;s for all Asian to rise. Rural Keynes could end village poverty & starvation; supercity win-win trades could celebrate Neumanns gift of 100 times more tech per decade (see macrae bio of von neumann)

Since 1960 the legacy of von neumann means ever decade multiplies 100 times more micro-technology- an unprecedented time for better or worse of all earthdwellers; 2025 timelined and mapped innovation exponentials - education, health, go green etc - (opportunities threats) to celebrating sustainability generation by 2025; dad parted from earth 2010; since then 2 journals by adam smith scholars out of Glasgow where engines began in 1760- Social Business; New Economics have invited academic worlds and young graduates to question where the human race is going - after 30 business trips to wealthier parts of Asia, through 2010s I have mainly sherpa's young journalist to Bangladesh - we are filing 50 years of cases on women empowerment at these web sites AbedMOOC.com FazleAbed.com EconomistPoor.com EconomistUN.com WorldRecordjobs.com Economistwomen.com Economistyouth.com EconomistDiary.com UNsummitfuture.com - in my view how a billion asian women linked together to end extreme poverty across continental asia is the greatest and happiest miracle anyone can take notes on - please note the rest of this column does not reflect my current maps of how or where the younger half of the world need to linkin to be the first sdg generation......its more like an old scrap book

how do humans design futures?-in the 2020s decade of the sdgs – this question has never had more urgency. to be or not to be/ – ref to lessons of deming or keynes, or glasgow university alumni smith and 200 years of hi-trust economics mapmaking later fazle abed - we now know how-a man made system is defined by one goal uniting generations- a system multiplies connected peoples work and demands either accelerating progress to its goal or collapsing - sir fazle abed died dec 2020 - so who are his most active scholars climate adaptability where cop26 november will be a great chance to renuite with 260 years of adam smith and james watts purposes t end poverty-specifically we interpret sdg 1 as meaning next girl or boy born has fair chance at free happy an productive life as we seek to make any community a child is born into a thriving space to grow up between discover of new worlds in 1500 and 1945 systems got worse and worse on the goal eg processes like slavery emerged- and ultimately the world was designed around a handful of big empires and often only the most powerful men in those empires. 4 amazing human-tech systems were invented to start massive use by 1960 borlaug agriculture and related solutions every poorest village (2/3people still had no access to electricity) could action learn person to person- deming engineering whose goal was zero defects by helping workers humanize machines- this could even allowed thousands of small suppliers to be best at one part in machines assembled from all those parts) – although americans invented these solution asia most needed them and joyfully became world class at them- up to 2 billion people were helped to end poverty through sharing this knowhow- unlike consuming up things actionable knowhow multiplies value in use when it links through every community that needs it the other two technologies space and media and satellite telecoms, and digital analytic power looked promising- by 1965 alumni of moore promised to multiply 100 fold efficiency of these core tech each decade to 2030- that would be a trillion tmes moore than was needed to land on the moon in 1960s. you might think this tech could improve race to end poverty- and initially it did but by 1990 it was designed around the long term goal of making 10 men richer than 40% poorest- these men also got involved in complex vested interests so that the vast majority of politicians in brussels and dc backed the big get bigger - often they used fake media to hide what they were doing to climate and other stuff that a world trebling in population size d\ - we the 3 generations children parents grandparents have until 2030 to design new system orbits gravitated around goal 1 and navigating the un's other 17 goals do you want to help/ 8 cities we spend most time helping students exchange sustainability solutions 2018-2019 BR0 Beijing Hangzhou:
