AN OLA is a short (maximum 9 minute) transcript or audio which is at the information crossroads of missing multidisciplinary curriculum
WHY CONVENTIONAL WISDOM SPINS INTO EVERY SOCIETY'S/CULTURE'S ENEMY WITHIN
before we can expect to catalogue great ola - we need to list the sorts of topics which make you stand up and scream why did nobody tell me that before -offer these topics involve issues that have concerned you a lot but there has been one missing key to going beyond conventional wisdom
many women find this sort of issue rightly makes them stand up and scream
#1 My father's diaries at The Economist argued fr the most value multiplying question in the world being: which of infrastructures (of past or future societies) immediately generate new wealth for our overall human race (eg sources of energy can multiply what man-power alone can do by many thousand-food) and which need investing in because they have a cost before a benefit. From 1800 places developed where life expectancy was raised from an average of 30 to over 60 - this because people could become much smarter in 60 years than 30 years and because women were freed from being pregnant more often than not ( societies with average life expectancy of 30 tend to demand huge families exhausting what women could otherwise contribute to the world)
#2 Apart from breeding babies do you know what job half of the world's women spend more time on than anything else? Carrying water to and fro with the aim of giving the family enough drinking water. One way to track whether we are designing a sustainable globalization is to ask yourself - are we designing massive collaboration networks around a knowledge focus such as water - and if we don't what do you think the consequence will be?
#3 I would say that innovations that have advanced the human lot have always involved the conflict of going beyond a group who have become very powerful because they are ruling over a scarcity, - and every time so far in human history such scarcity barons have had terrifying consequences especially for women and children. Unfortunately the freedom of energy observed above has also become our human races greatest trap because carbon energy is too dirty to sustain futures. The required innovation - natural energy is abundant and do-able but the sort of way to network around clean energy is very different from that which big oil companies and governments powered over. The inconvenient truth is that both government and oil corporations own nations propaganda power -while thriving carbon free economies are a quality investment that is the best investment humanity will ever make - with the greatest advantages to women and families - we the people are being blocked from getting onto the future trajectories by lour own governments- timing is now critical
