As a statistician, and son of media and mediation families, I come from perspective of systemic change involving anticipation of conflicts that need to be resolved.
The conflicts I most want to focus on in next working year are:
***pro-youth - most of the biggest institutions, capital investment structures and economic policies have totally lost this capacity (eg make a map of lost generation)
***valuing open collaboration - ditto in spite of this being the unique innovation advantage of being founder members of net generation
***mediation grounded in bottom-up sustainability of communities wherever this leads to transparently different information flows and human spirit than mindsets conditioned by administering global standards
2014 will be 42nd year that my father and I started an amateur passion for linking in to the coming of digital networks and impacts of youth as the greatest communications revolution ever- what became my father's dialogues of Entrepreneurial Revolution in The Economist and by 1984 his book mapping 3 billion mainly bottom-up jobs of the net generation and heroic collaboration goals that borderless youth should be celebrated for
I see 2 hot spots for collaboration entrepreneurial revolution that I want to maximise my 13-14 diary on:
1 OPEN EDU REVOLUTION IS READY TO SCALE AS COLLABORATION'S GREATEST EVER FREEDOM
MOOC is scaling after 42 years of my family's rehearsals pro-youth education valued as the core of the digital revolution. Following clues of both Coursera's Koller and Khan Academy's Khan, I am most interested in (maximum) 9 minute audio modules as being embedded in every mooc platform aiming to empower millions of youth's simultaneous actions with job creating or other information that the 4 educational monopolies -what is researched, what is taught, what is examined, what is accredited- have blocked youth from fully enjoying. A simple way to viralise this is to co-produce a survey of what 9 minute training modules do millions of youth most meed to interact round online now. Yunus' way of announcing this challenge at his keynote to 10th skoll world entrepreneur championships is top of this video cluster on massive collaboration
2 UNLIKE 20th C Organisational Typologies that failed by getting too big to exist, youth (and pro-youth economists) now have a benchmark for an open society typology that 7 billion humans can map win-win-wins around in any area of life-critical service networking. This DNA of Entrepreneurial Revolution emerged from the birth of the world's poorest 100 million plus nation in 1971
We are issuing an open white paper both to the leaders of Bangladesh' micro-up grassroots networks and those millennium goal summit coordinators who claim to value replicating Bangladesh's microfranchise solutions. Help converge the revolution of open education and Bangladesh microfranchises networking through positive viral training of tens of millions of youth. Say if you want latest copy.
Further Notes for fathers friends who want to continue his 90th year and The Economist's 17th year of editorial rules designed to med an end of hunger and an end of abuse of youth.
Since father died in 2010 remembrance parties and other debriefs have converged on a 7 wonders structure of Entrepreneurial Revolution which can be seen as resonating through dad's 40 years of work at The Economist and in retirement another decade and a half of writings both for newspapers and his geography of John Von Neumann. In addition to these 7 wonders my father experienced arguably the most international view of geo-political history of any media man of the 20th century. Actually much of local experiences mirrored Peter Drucker but happened about 10 years later including first meeting Drucker while my granddad was hosting an event in the British Embassy in USSR at height of Stalin's purges- dad was a young teenager, Drucker was in his first job as a journalist. Both Drucker and dad learnt to never believe what heads of big system PR from the period of world wars and the way gaps in nations' society let Stalins and Hitlers fill such vacuums. Very small changes in media often have dramatic effects which unfortunately evil powers exploit first. For example Hitler's advantage over that allies was being able to tape his radio broadcasts so replicating them endlessly whereas allies had to make any radio speech live. So very detailed analysis of how tools of communications fit together has also been part of my life's work
In 1976 Dec 25 dad's actual survey of Entrepreneurial Revolution challenged economists and leaders to look for wholly diferent organsisational systems to scale than those of the 20th c if we wanted the net generation to be sustainable. Its quite wonderful that pro-youth and open network innovated out of Bangladesh since 1971 are a world calss benchmark model especially when you look at times that Open Society principles of philanthropist George Soros have interacted with them. It was a mainly free loan from Soros that enabled Yunus to bring mobile phones to the villages and which 16 years later makes Bangladesh the place with more grounded village experiments in what ending digital divides can replicate than anywhere I can find. This incident also connected in the quadir brothers whose open tech wizardry spans mit, bangladesh and leading middle east investment banks. However due to personal chemistries all their energies now connect with Bangladesh' BRAC.
Other places -eg Kenya - with world class mobile village experiments closely linked in to the same open tech wizards. China may be the biggest exception - however a better way of putting that which Bangladesh bottom -up leaders have done since the start of online villages is that China's should be celebrated for every lead it invests in resulting in open sustainability solutions. For example unless china is celebrated for open village green energy solutions, much of the world will be burn out or drowned out at the same time making it likely that worldwide youth will lose hope instead of celebrating all the greatest possibilities of now enjoying million times more empowering collaboration tech than when 1960s man raced to the moon
